Unawatuna is a town in southern Sri Lanka. It’s known for its coral reef and its palm-lined beaches, like Unawatuna Beach. Nestled in nearby jungle, the Japanese Peace Pagoda has a stupa with ocean views. The Sea Turtle Farm and Hatchery south of town protects endangered species. North across the bay is the city of Galle’s fortified old town, founded by the Portuguese and expanded by the Dutch in the 17th century.

Visit Unawatuna Beach

This beach is one of the most popular places to visit in Unawatuna Sri Lanka. The landscape is scenic with clear blue water and sandy shores. You can go swimming or rent a sunbed and relax under the warm sun. A little further ahead to the west is a small pagoda or temple that overlooks the waves. There are plenty of restaurants on the beach, if you get hungry. If you visit during the night, you can enjoy the music there.

Swing at Dalawella

The rope swing at Dalawella beach, just south of Unawatuna, went viral on Instagram and before long every single visitor to the country wanted 'that shot'.

In all honesty, we thought about giving this a miss - it just felt a little gimmicky for our travel tastes. But we’re also suckers when it comes to FOMO, and eventually decided to give it a go. The verdict? It’s definitely worth it.

Surf in Unawatuna

You can surf in unawaruna. Unawatuna is most famous for sufing.There are a variety of surf spots in Unawatuna and its surrounding area, but this place represents the perfect surfing conditions, especially from October (When we were there).

The surf leaves the famous Arugam Bay in October and heads to the South Coast and this beach offers a variety of waves perfect for all levels.

Swimming in Unawatuna Beach

Unawatuna main beach is one of the most famous beaches in the country and is popular with both tourists and locals alike. The best place to swim is in the middle or to the south of the beach, where there are less people and less boats. 

Alternatively, you can rent a sunbed and relax, order cocktails and curries from the beachside bars, or take an afternoon stroll up to the pagoda at the north of the beach and watch the sunset.

Jungle beach was suggested to us by many of the locals as one of the best things to do in Unawatuna. You can spend time relax in here.

If you visit Unawatuna you can join nightlife party or noon party.here you can enjoy much.The main street is filled with many bars which offer 'happy hour' specials in the afternoon and into the early evening, which are the perfect place to get the party started.
