Panavitiya Ambalama is an ambalama situated in Sri Lanka. An ambalama is a place constructed for pilgrims, traders and travellers to rest. The Panavitiya ambalama has been dated to the 18th century. The Department of Archeology has renovated and restored it. It is believed that the ambalama may have stood as a rest hall enroute to an ancient foot path leading from Dambadeniya to Kurunegala and Yapahuwa. Today it stands as a unique monument of our ancient transport system. – a witness to maybe a million passers-by. Visit Arankele Monastery

Arankele Monastery is forest monastery, dates back to 6th Century. Arankale forest which is situated 117 Km away from Colombo, is located at the district of Kurunegala. The densely wooded terrain crowded with substantial hardwood trees is interspersed by the openings and clearings created by the on-going process of clearing scattered debris to unearth the ruins and re-erecting the fallen ruins.

The significance of the Arankale forest is its tranquility and how the natural formations of caves have been used for the hermit lifestyle of the monks. Furthermore, it was evident in the existence of meditation halls, stone-faced double platform structures. These platforms aligned in the east-west axis consist of the entrance porch to the east bridged by a giant monolith.

Worship Padeniya Temple

The temple was built on an elevated ground made on top of an uneven rock surface overlooking a small lake. There are three entrances to the temple and they have fine wood carvings including various creepers and a Makara Thorana (dragon face) welcoming you in. The frieze of lions is a unit decoration of the temple. The roof resembles the wood works of Embekke Devalaya.

Panduwasnuwara city is about an ancient city in the city of Kurunegala, functioned as the capital of Sri Lanka during the reign of the King Pandukabhaya, Panduwasnuwara was the capital during the 12th century, during this era the Panduwasnuwara city held the tooth relic, as it is a sign of the Kingship, without which no one shall be recognized as king nor a queen. The kind Pandukabhaya had to retrieve the tooth relic as the south Indian Invaders stole it.
