Devon Falls, known as the 'Veil of the Valley', is a waterfall in Sri Lanka, situated 6 km (3.7 mi) west of Talawakele, Nuwara Eliya District on the A7 highway. The falls is named after a pioneer English coffee planter called Devon, whose plantation was situated nearby the falls.The waterfall is 97 m (318 ft) high and is the 19th highest in the country. The falls are formed by a tributary of Kothmale Oya, which is a tributary of Mahaweli River. The elevation of Devon Falls is 1,140 m (3,740 ft) above sea level.

Best time to Visit Devon Falls

Watch St. Clairs fall

Popularly known as the “Little Niagara of Sri Lanka”, the twin waterfalls of St. Clair’s are among the widest in Sri Lanka and the 20th highest waterfall in Sri Lanka. It comprises two waterfalls; The Greater Fall (“Maha Ella” in Sinhalese) and The Lesser Fall (“Kuda Ella” in Sinhalese), and torrents over three rock crags into a massive pool. Embedded among a scenic tea plantation after which they were named, The Falls are indisputably a glorious spectacle to behold. It is also an ideal break spot whilst travelling.

Opposite the falls and along the road there is a tea shop which also serves snacks.
The Falls are located on the Hatton-Talawakele Highway, 500m from the road. It is formed by the Kotmale Oya which is a branch of the Mahaweli River, the longest river in Sri Lanka. St. Clair’s is among the 7 waterfalls that are affected as a result of the Upper Kotmale Hydropower Project.

At 20 metres, Baker’s fall is on the smaller side when it comes to Sri Lanka’s waterfalls – but don’t let its size fool you, it’s still an amazing sight to see up-close. The falls are named after the famous British explorer and big-game hunter, Samuel Baker.

In order to reach the falls, you’ll have to hike around 3 kilometres from the entrance to the Horton Plain National Park. After a bit of trekking, you’ll come upon a trail that’s called ‘Baker’s Loop’. This is a circular path that will take you to Baker’s Falls and then lead you back onto the main hiking trail.
