Visit Crow Island Beach

Crow Island Beach is on the shores of the Indian Ocean at the capital city Colombo; it is adjacent to the mouth of the Kelani River. The beach is most famous for its namesake beach park. As the name suggests, Crow Island Beach Park is a public recreational area for people of all ages, with a host of assorted activities on offer at its premises.

Spread over an area of 17 acres and opened in 2016, Crow Island Beach Park has plenty of options to pass the time, for the easygoing as well as the energetic—from numerous benches for merely resting and gazing at the sunset, to hobbies such as kite-flying. One can also grab a bite at any of the food stalls or the restaurant inside the park.

Open to all ages, this 17-acre park has plenty of activities to offer. With a children's play area, walking tracks, mangrove forest, a lake, a huge playground, kite-flying opportunities, the beach park is also a fine place to witness the sunset.

Due to the strategic position of the Crow Island at the mouth of the Nilwala Ganga River and in the sea, it experiences strong gusts of wind. Climb Dondra Lighthouse

The Dondra Point is the southernmost point of Sri Lanka. Constructed in 1889, the Dondra Head Lighthouse is the tallest lighthouse in Sri Lanka. Commissioned by the Imperial Lighthouse Service and designed by Sir James Nicholas Douglass, the lighthouse was erected under the supervision of William Douglass. A set of spiral stairs allow visitors to climb to the top of the lighthouse, which leads to the balcony. The balcony offers a splendid aerial view from the 160 feet high lighthouse. One can witness the undulating mountains in the north or the vast expanses of the ocean in the south.
